Just when the Knicks season had some hope, Jamal Crawford traded to Warriors for Al Harrington

From Just when the Knicks season had some hope, Jamal Crawford traded to Warriors for Al Harrington

Finally.....Finally it was time....As I saw the sports ticker at the bottom of my screen begin with "Knicks agree to trade", I just knew that either the Stephon Marbury or Eddy Curry issue had finally been resolved. The Knicks season had already started out with some excitement, and this was just going to add to it. A genuine feeling of happiness and relief started to generate inside me.....

Tick....Tick.....the ticker kept going...

As each letter was revealed after "Knicks agree to trade", the feeling of happiness became a feeling of worry..... A few seconds later, the ticker had finished, and my jaw and heart were on the floor.

"The Knicks agree to trade Jamal Crawford to the Warriors for Al Harrington.."

...? What?..... What!? ..... WHAT!??

As upset as I was immediately at the sight of this, it took a few minutes longer for the real anguish to set in, as I was sure that there must have been a typo, or at least more to the deal. As I have now seen the trade confirmed by multiple sources, the anguish has combined with frustration, and extreme curiosity. Curiosity is the only neutral feeling I could come up with, so I am really trying to concentrate on that. But curious, is an understatement.

I mentioned hope in my headline... That hope had come from the new energy and results that Mike D'antoni has brought to the Knicks.

#1 in the NBA in points per game. #1 in the NBA in 3 pointers made. A 6-5 record.

Now ok, the Knicks haven't had the hardest schedule in the league, but these numbers are still impressive. At this rate, even if the Knicks were to finish the season in 10th place in the east, they were at least going to be fun to watch and playing hard. The only real negatives so far this season had been the Marbury and Curry situations. That is why I was astonished to see a trade that didn't involve either of the two.

Why would you trade a guy in Crawford that is perfect for the D'antoni system, averages 20 points, 5 assists and can play both guard positions? Why would you bring in Al Harrington when you already have a similar player in Zach Randolph, and a big log jam at forward with Quentin Richardson, Wilson Chandler, Randolph, and the under-utilized David Lee? .... I just don't get it... Are they going to play Harrington and Randolph together? Are they going to play Chris Duhon and Nate Robinson together? I don't see either of those combinations working out very well.

The Knicks will lose one of the only guys who could create his own shot in Crawford, who was also very well received by the fans and media in New York.  Now they will bring in Harrington, who is known for being an underachiever with a bad attitude.

Again, I just don't understand it.

I think the only way I can keep a positive attitude right now is by hoping that Donnie Walsh and D'antoni have more moves coming along with this. If this trade was part of something MUCH bigger, than I guess it could work out. But New York is not a city that likes to wait. And these fans have already waited. We were all so glad to see this new energy. I really hope that this season isn't down the tubes, but only time will tell.

I wish Jamal the best of luck in Golden State. And even though I have never liked Harrington, I will try to like him I guess. I really hope he doesn't take more minutes away from David Lee, who I love, and everyone in New York loves.... Oh that reminds me, Jared Jeffries is coming back soon also...... Great.....
