LeBron James makes his only trip to Madison Square Garden tonight.
For the past two seasons there has been plenty of talk about LeBron bolting his hometown of Cleveland for the bright lights of New York City.

In the NBA these days, it seems like there is a stat for everything. We’ve got PER, offensive efficiency ratings, defensive efficiency rating, and so on and so on.
It seems like every team in the league now employs their own stat guru. And while I’m not one to question the use of all these new statistics to evaluate NBA players (I actually kinda like them), I’m old school.

The Good
Ty Lawson
How good was he last night? I predicted the Denver Nuggets to be the third best team in the West this season, and that was assuming that Ty Lawson would play like a rookie point guard.

Or is it dilemmi? Either way.
As the entire NBA world eagerly awaits the potential match-up of Kobe and LeBron in this year's finals, they also can't help observe it's getting increasingly difficult for them to get there. The Magic and Nuggets are hitting their strides at the right time, with bench players stepping up at crucial moments, Van Panic and Karl making good coaching moves, and both team's point guards acting as the leaders they can be. Even if the current and future MJ's of our time average 50 a game for the rest of the playoffs, it won't matter. That's not how you reach the Golden Summit (Yes, I just used "Golden Summit" as an analogy for the Finals. Deal with it. I like it.).

When Mark Cuban told Lydia Moore that her son, the Nuggets' Kenyon Martin, was a "thug" after Game 3 of the Nuggets-Mavs series, he crossed a line. I thought I'd point out the Top 10 Things he MEANT TO SAY to Ms. Moore:

The Denver Nuggets as I have watched over the years have never had a motivation to win a championship in their franchise history they are happy to be part of the "also rans" from their ABA days through the McDyess years up into Melo and Chauncey Billups. This is an organization who still lives off the highlights of being the origin of the dunk contest in 1976 of Julius Erving, Mutumbo clutching the ball upon the ground, after defeating a Payton and Kemp, Seattle team in the 93-94 season. Dan Issel is still the franchise's greatest player and second greatest coach behind the continously fallen short Mike D'Antoni before himself, in Doug Moe. Even the hiring of George Karl is just a reminder of what they have achieved in the past. They are an organizational ponzi scheme of hope, dreams and achievement.

Okay, let's just be honest here. Nate Robinson may not have fully deserved the 2006 NBA Slam Dunk Contest Title, but he sure earned it this year. Nate battled the defending champion, Dwight Howard, in the Finals and one-upped the ultimate gamesman in the end. Together they put on possibly the greatest show in the history of the contest since the days of Michael Jordan battling Dominique Wilkins.

I'm sure that the last person new defensive-minded coach Scott Skiles had his team focus on in practice was Linas Kleiza. It was clear from the get-go that the Bucks were at least trying to come out with a strong defensive presence. Although the Nuggets scored 34 points in the first quarter, they sure didn't get many easy buckets. It seemed like every other posession Carmelo or Dahntay Jones were at the line. Rookie Luc Mbah a Moute had looked pretty impressive so far this season, especially on the defensive end. However in this game, he looked lost and over-agressive. I can't believe he only had 5 fouls, I think he could have had 8. Even Richard Jefferson seemed to be overwhelmed by the ultra-agressive Nuggets attack. It wasn't only Melo and Dahntay Jones causing chaos. Like I said before, it was the "L-train" Linas Kleiza chugging his way through the lane and looking almost unstoppable at times on his way to a Nuggets high 25 points. Although the Nuggets starters were holding their own, the energy of Kleiza and Renaldo Balkman was unbelievable and shocked the Bucks. While Kleiza's damage was done mostly on the offensive end, Balkman dominated on the defensive end with 4 blocks and 2 steals in only 20 minutes of play. It is really great to see such energy off the bench for the Nuggets, especially with "Birdman" Chris Anderson still out. 48 bench points is the most of the season and hopefully a good sign for things to come. I have seen that some fans are worried about the Nuggets starters needing more minutes together and need to find their rhythm, and I have previously agreed with that. But with the Spurs coming up just one night later, I think it was a great move to let the bench players get some time as long as they were playing well.

It’s time for the next movement. I like to call these players those that are right on the cusp of being known but not quite. Their play catches non-hoop heads and non-ballers by surprise. Today I decided I’m giving you the players that are going to have the most effect on their teams the key being that they are not already stars.

With 400 fowards on the roster, you knew this trade was coming...
2 years ago, Isiah Thomas made the mind-boggling decision of drafting Balkman at #20 while players with the likes of Rajon Rondo and Marcus Williams were still up for grabs (I know....take a minute to shake your head and wonder what life would be like with Rondo).
