Los Angeles Clippers

2 November 2009

In the NBA these days, it seems like there is a stat for everything. We’ve got PER, offensive efficiency ratings, defensive efficiency rating, and so on and so on.

It seems like every team in the league now employs their own stat guru. And while I’m not one to question the use of all these new statistics to evaluate NBA players (I actually kinda like them), I’m old school.

Happy New Year!

With the new NBA season set to tip off with four games tonight, here are some of the things I’ll be watching for in tonight’s action.

Boston @ Cleveland, 7:30pm

I can’t wait to see LeBron again this season. Last year, coming off the Olympics, you could see that his focus was on improving defensively. Now, without a summer in the spotlight, I’m curious to see if he’s made any improvements to his already unreal game. Is this the year we finally see LeBron use his Karl Malone-like body to beast on people inside?

LES (AP)—Blake Griffin’s (notes) NBA debut has been pushed back indefinitely after the Los Angeles Clippers revealed late Monday night that their No. 1 overall draft pick has a broken left kneecap.

10) They were spotted in Kobe's escalade at an 'N and Out drive-through. And yes, they both got "animal style."

9) When on road trips in Denver, Kobe's got Artest covered for booty calls.

Welcome to Jason M. But in today's NBA, that's asking a lot. Right now the best option may be Marcus Camby of the Los Angeles Clippers, though I'm not sure that he would elevate New Jersey into the league of Boston, Los Angeles, and Cleveland. He most likely wouldn't; the Nets would need a big man like Dwight Howard, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett or Yao Ming -- all of whom are clearly unavailable.

"It's not a game, it's an arms race" - Kanye West and Fallout Boy belt this hook over and over again on a recent hit with that same title. In that context, Kanye and the Fallout Boy guys are referring to the battle of musical artists not only surviving in a competitive worldwide market, but one with hindrances around every music sharing online ripping program. While that's an issue for another day and another blogsite, it's relevance is crucial when talking about the current state of Major League baseball and the National Basketball Association.

While I promised, and will deliver, my 2008 NBA Draft Losers today, I had to first stop and comment on Baron Davis to the Clippers.

I love the move! Not only am I a big Baron Davis fan, but I am also a big Elton Brand fan. Given the opportunity for Brand to have a couple of running mates, his professionalism, leadership and post-game could easily bring a title to LA. Not yet, but Davis, Chris Kaman, Cat Mobley and Brand is a decent start. Al Thorton could be the future at the Small Forward position, and maybe #1 draft pick Eric Gordon is the man to take this team over the top at the 2.
