March Madness

30 March 2009

As excited as I was anticipating the start of the NCAA Tournament, this season's version has been, well, disappointing to say the least. There have been hardly any close games or great finishes, especially after the first round.

Stephen A. Smith wrote an article that I read online for this month’s ESPN the magazine about Carmelo Anthony that I found of interest. Yes, like most I find Stephen A to be an immoderate ranter of a commentator when on television, especially when you consider the majority commentators are there nearly by job description ,not to commentate, but rant.

down this entry with complaints about baseball, or why the BCS will never give us a postseason like March Madness.  I want to keep this blog positive because this is the start of the one week of the year where parents may actually watch basketball with their kids, and husbands and wives may not fight over the remote for a change.  You’re one of us now, non-sports fans, boohahaha!  The smeared pencil on your fingers from organizing the office pool is as telltale a sign as two bite marks on a neck.

p>This is the third time in my basketball watching life that I am picking Kansas to be the Kings of March Madness.  In 1995, they had a great ballclub led by Jaque Vaughn and Jerod Haas, but the team was smacked in the sweet sixteen by the Virginia.  I then picked them last year to take it all the way, and then they were stunned by Southern Illinois, once again, in the sweet sixteen.  This year, I am going for three times a charm, and I'm going to be right.  Furthermore, I'm convinced that this Jayhawk ballclub will not be denied.  When you look at their possible matchups down the road to the final four, you cannot help but take your eyes to San Antonio,. I know, we have not even tipped off the tournament yet, but if both North Carolina and Kansas can win their next four games, then basketball fans will be given a dream match-up of the Tarheels versus the Jayhawks.  Surely, this will be an emotional rollercoaster ride for former KU coach, and Current Tarheel coach, Roy Williams.  I have a deep conviction that Kansas will come out on top.
