New York Yankees Post-Opening Day 2009 Thoughts posted on 04/06/2009

-The Orioles fans shouldn't be allowed to chant "Yankees Suck." The O's haven't had a winning season in 10+ years.

-Joe Girardi makes me nervous as he stands, arms folded in the dugout one second after the opposing team gets a man on base

-Michael Kay needs to stop regurgitating the same old stats and nonsense he always talks about. Take a class in broadcasting from the guys on SNY

-It's odd seeing the Melkman wearing #53 instead of #28. Every time I'd think to myself, "Boy, Abreu shrunk in the offseason!"

-George Sherrill is one of the most awkwardly proportioned athletes in sports. The flat brim style cap doesn't help either

-0 and 1 on the season and an unimpressive first start by CC. He was slow at the start last year too and then look what happened. Wang to start on Wednesday and Burnett on Thursday. I don't think Trembley knows who is starting either of those games for Baltimore. It's nice having a loaded rotation and feeling confident every time I throw on YES. Last year at this time I'd have to cut rabbit's feet when Rasner, Ponson, or Kennedy were getting the ball

The Natural: Robinson Cano posted on 04/01/2009

Robinson Cano is an enigma. Over the course of one game you might see him daze off in the field, later strike out on a ball in the dirt, then make a gold glove caliber play, and by the game's end smash a home run into the bleachers. And that is what we have seen from the 26-year-old in his first four years as the Yankees second baseman.

There are a lot of concerns plaguing Yankee fans of whether or not Cano is a true all-star talent or even a long term solution at second base. By the end of April last year he was hitting a .151 in his first month removed from signing a 4 year 30 million dollar contract. This offseason there were rumors the Yankees were even considering trading Cano for awhile. But when they signed the young talent they knew they were taking a risk and should see it through.

The New York Yankee Lineup As Movies posted on 03/31/2009

Derek Jeter- Shawshank Redemption. The lead character Andy Dufresne was wrongly accused and thrown in jail. Over the last few years Jeter has been falsely accused as a chink in the defensive armor. But Yankee fans don't care, with the tying run on second in the bottom of the 9th we want Jeter at the plate. He's a classic.

Johnny Damon- Half-Baked. Sometimes says things that make Yankee fans think there's more than just Kentucky bluegrass growing out there in left field.

Mark Teixeira- Transformers. The movie has it all: action, comedy, smoking hot Megan Fox, and cost a ton of money to make. Tex has got power, defensive prowess, switch hits, and says all the right things. And hopefully the Tex addition will transform this Yankee offense.

Alex Rodriguez- The Usual Suspects. At the end of the movie it turns out not everyone is who we thought they were. The only problem for Yankee fans is we know about the A-Fraud and the end of the movie isn't for another 9 years.

Tiger Woods Returns: Back To Reality For The PGA posted on 03/31/2009

Did anyone else notice the way Tiger looked on Sunday as he finished his round ultimately winning at Bay Hill? Everything in his approach from his stare, the kneel down, and the famous uppercut-fist pump were all vintage Tiger. Often, athletes are weary of the surgically-repaired body parts and do not return to normal until a year after even the rehab. Yet, Tiger looked like for the past year he was sailing the Caribbean, fishing for some Mahi-Mahi, and eating money. He is a once in a lifetime athlete to witness and we should all send thank you letters to his surgeon for saving superman.

Sidenote: I wish athletes were allowed to trademark moves and celebrations. Some examples- Tiger's fist pump, Jordan's tongue sticking out, or Jeter's backhand in the hole and jump throw. Hey if Pat Riley can trademark Three-Peat, then why not a Tiger fist pump TM? For sure, no one else's is more exciting to root for.

The Resurrection of Kentucky Basketball posted on 03/31/2009

The University of Kentucky Wildcats are the elite program in men's college basketball. They lead such categories as all time wins, winning percentages, NCAA tournament appearances, tournament wins, and tournament games. They rank second in tournament championships with 7 only to UCLA's 11. And yet, for the last 2 years the most prominent wildcats have been from Villanova, Arizona, and DAVIDSON!?

But fear not Ashley Judd, it seems your 'Cats will soon be king of the jungle again. If John Calipari agrees to come to Kentucky, not only will he bring his leadership, tenacity, and charm but also one of the nation's top recruiting classes.

A lot has to happen before this comes true, but if you are a high school student planning on attending Memphis and the face of the school leaves, what do you do? The reason you were attending Memphis was not for the legacy or the skill of the competition but was all cause of the coach. And now he's at the premiere program in the country. Would you rather be driving Mercedes or a Hyundai? The answer is simple.
