The Genesis, The King and The Kid

Can you smell that in the air? This is the best time of the year. It’s a smell of apples, wood and leather in the cold air of a New York fall. I love this time of year and I personally am trying to get cologne of those smells, but Karl Lagerfield is not retuning my calls. It is ok, it’s basketball season so I’m busy.

With just under a week until the start of the NBA season, it is time for some predictions. Just like every basketball pundit loser out there I believe I know the future.

MVP

“All hail the King!” because you will be a witness that LeBron James has become the best player in the NBA, wait, wait, I mean in the world. I hope Kobe enjoyed the summer, because more than the Olympic torch got past in China. I am predicting Bron-Bron putting up 29.5 ppg  6.0 apg 6.5 rpg. It’s now the time for the reign of the King. So for MVP I’m predicting Chris Paul. Not because he will outplay LeBron, though he will be good, but because it’s the NBA and you never get the MVP the year deserve it always the year after. Hey but Bron-Bron I got you for 2010-11.

Defensive Player of the Year

So this is five man race between Ron Artest, Greg Oden, Tim Duncan , Marcus Camby and Kevin Garnett. Dwight Howard gets left off for lack of focus, more particular since he became Superman.  From the list let’s go ahead and knock out two immediately. The NBA executives and GM’s are not awarding Ron Artest anything but community service. They are afraid of Artest doing something to embarrass them, let alone put out another rap album. It ain’t all good in QB.

Greg Oden will only be on the court really this year for defense but rookies don’t get awards, maybe next year champ.  So that leaves Camby, Duncan and Garnett. I’m taking Duncan out because the Spurs play such good team defense that he will be overlooked, not mention there is lifetime achievement award in basketball.  I did I mention that he has Udoka and Bowen.

Which now leaves us Camby and Garnett, so I’m going with Garnett, only one player has ever won the award older than 32 and that was Dikembe Mutombo.  Not that Camby isn’t worthy, but he will be playing for the Clippers. No one wins in Clipperland , this is where your career goes into the twilight light zone. So unless he gets traded to a contender, executives don’t want to think about this, there are trades, drafts, coaches and chemistry that they want to think about. Kevin Garnett is easy for them and Boston they will be one of the top 3 teams in the Eastern Conference.
